Trigger
Point Therapy
Definition:
“ A trigger point is a highly irritable localised spot of
exquisite tenderness in a nodule in a palpable taut band of muscle
tissue. “
The first part of the definition just means that the trigger point
hurts when you apply pressure on it.
The nodule is the formal definition of the trigger point itself.
The palpable taut band is a tight strand of muscle that feels like
a cord.
Treatment:
Trigger point therapy is a technique using gentle pressure on the
spot to help releasing the tension. The pain will then decrease
and there will be improvement of the range of motions of the muscle.
Deep stroke are also applied to the muscle to relax the whole muscle,
the trigger point being the main focused spot.
Treatment of the trigger point usually happens during the remedial
massage therapy treatment
